Raising History: The continuing Story of the Wreck of the CSS Alabama
Over one hundred years after the CSS Alabama went to its watery grave, controversy still swirls around the wreck. In order to raise and preserve the relics of history, an agreement had to be reached on the ownership of the wreck. With the change in the definition of national legal limits, France had a right to claim the Alabama. Only an agreement between the US and France would allow investigation of the wreck and removal of its artifacts.
Here are two of the documents: one related to the negotiations and the other a report of the investigations with pictures of some of the raised artifacts.
